Fabrication of Aluminum Ammunition Box for the Military Industry

We built this 3-lb. 6061-T6 aluminum ready service ammunition box to the exacting standards of the U.S. Army for use by combat forces in the field. Following the elaborate design specifications of our Military customer as well as our own demanding 2D CAD drawings, we swiftly developed a plan of attack in terms of procurement, fabrication, assembly, and finishing. Fabrication processes included cutting, bending, notching, machining, punching, press riveting, drilling, die-press shaping, spot welding, cable swaging, GMAW and TIG welding. We employed nearly every machine in the playbook in accomplishing this task, from metal shearing and milling to press braking, punching, and notching. The fabrication of the individual functional elements of each ammunition box and the planning of the assembly sequencing of them as each box came to form was extremely critical in this fabrication.

Assembly consisted primarily of spot welding, precision TIG /GTAW welding, riveting and mechanical fastening of parts together. By assembly's end, we had in our hands hundreds of ammo boxes measuring 19.49" long, 4.64" wide, and 10.49" high with tightest tolerances of ±.010". With a durable tactical green-painted finish, mil spec stenciling and combat user-critical decals applied, we knew we had done the work required and that troops in the field would soon be achieving their military objectives at the "tip of the spear" utilizing our handiwork.
